Juno Finance Review: Our Opinion

Juno Finance is a crypto-friendly neobank that gives users low-fee access to several banking services. However, it only offers a checking account and does not give access to a savings account.

Juno Finance also doesn’t provide a physical debit card out of the box, you’ll need to request one yourself.

In general, Juno Finance is easy to set up and use for crypto-relevant banking services and cashback rewards.

    Juno Finance Review: Unique Features

    Juno Basic Checking Account

    Juno's direct deposit - 1280x720

The Juno Basic account is a high-yield account suitable for beginners and first-time Juno users. There is no minimum deposit or monthly maintenance fee required for this account.

The Basic account offers all the essential functionalities needed by most crypto users.

Transactions are easy to execute without any unnecessary complexities.

Basic account holders can earn 5.00% APY on balances up to $50,000, they can also earn cashback at several companies.

Unlike the Metal account, the Basic account has lower limits. These limits are designed to help the users get familiar with Juno’s offerings.

You can view the limits for the basic account in the Limits section of your Account tab. These limits can either go up or down depending on how you use your account.

Purchase and deposit limits vary based on your payment method and region.

The daily limit resets at 5 p.m. Pacific time every day (midnight UTC), while the monthly limits reset on the first day of every month.

With the Basic account, you get a plastic card on request and a yearly cashback of up to $25.

You can upgrade your Basic account to the Metal plan whenever you are ready.

To do this, set up a direct deposit of $250 or more per month. Once the direct deposit is successfully settled, your account will be upgraded to the Metal plan if you meet the approval criteria.

To maintain your Metal access, you must sustain a monthly direct deposit.

    Juno Metal Account

This is the highest-tier checking account on Juno. The Metal account is similar to the Basic account but it offers a few more perks

The Metal account provides enhanced limits on the platform as well as greater cashback benefits.

The Metal account is suitable for crypto enthusiasts and experienced Juno users looking for expanded on-ramp capacities, access to new features, and amplified cashback rewards.

With the Metal account, you get a 13.3g Stainless steel core card on request and a yearly cashback of up to $500.

To be eligible for the Metal account, you need to make a direct deposit of $250 or more per month.

When you upgrade to a Metal account, Juno will issue you a metal card. You can only hold one metal card at a time.

If your monthly deposit is less than $250 or is discontinued within 90 days, you will be automatically downgraded back to Basic Checking.

You can also voluntarily downgrade from Metal Checking whenever you wish.

If you order a Metal card and decide to downgrade before 3 subsequent qualifying months, you will be charged $60 for the cost of the card.

    Security: Is Juno Finance Safe?

Juno is a secure FinTech company with several security features in place to ensure the security of user’s funds.

Users’ accounts are protected with a two-layer security architecture: Security login and Confirmation PIN.

The security login has a sign-in authentication which consists of a username and password or face/fingerprint recognition for both the mobile app and web app.

The Confirmation PIN is a 4-digit code that is required every time you connect/disconnect your phone or make a transfer.

Note that the confirmation PIN is not the same as your Card PIN that you use to withdraw cash from the ATM.

To enhance security and prevent the risk of account takeovers, the system initiates an automatic logout which occurs after 60 minutes of activity on the website.

That said, since Juno does not operate as a bank, it cannot provide FDIC insurance on its own.

The funds in the Checking accounts are facilitated by Evolve Bank & Trust which offers FDIC insurance coverage for USD deposits extending up to $250,000.

Digital assets held in Users’ accounts are not protected by FDIC insurance or any third-party or government-backed insurance.

    Staking Rewards and Cashbacks

You can increase your cashback limit by trading cryptocurrency at Juno. For all crypto trade fees you pay (in spreads), Juno will boost your cashback limit with the same amount.

Juno Finance Compared with Its Main 2 Competitors

    Chime

The Chime Neobank offers an online checking account just like Juno Finance that’s free to open and doesn’t have monthly fees. However, it doesn’t support cryptocurrencies which is where Juno Finance outshines it.

    Varo

A Varo Money account gives users access to both Savings accounts and Checking accounts, unlike Juno Finance which doesn’t offer a savings account. It also offers cashback and provides FDIC insurance up to $250,000.

    What is a NeoBank?

A neobank is a digital-only financial technology company. It isn’t a traditional bank and usually partners with a regular one to offer its banking and financial services.

How to Choose the Right NeoBank for Your Needs?

To choose the right neobank for your needs consider the following:

    • Applicable transaction fees
    • Cashback rewards
    • Debit card (physical, virtual, or both)
    • Ease of use
    • Crypto support (number of available assets if available)
    • Reputation of Partner banks used

    Conclusion

Juno Finance is a basic neobank that offers simple services like a checking account and a debit card. It stands out for its subscription-free service and ease of use.

That said, Juno is quite limited as it doesn’t offer savings accounts or joint checking accounts and you need to request a physical debit card.
