Ellipal Titan Review: Our Opinion
The Ellipal Titan wallet is a 100% air-gapped cold wallet best suited for advanced crypto investors who need a hardware wallet that supports financial tools like staking and access to dApps.
An Overview of Ellipal
Ellipal was founded in 2018 by 2 encryption technology experts known as Thomas and David. Headquartered in Hong Kong, the company behind the Ellipal Titan focuses on one-stop solutions for the blockchain service ecosystem and cryptocurrency security.
Ellipal has warehouses in several nations such as the United States, Germany, the United Kingdom, and Australia.
Among its numerous products, Ellipal’s stand-out offer is the Ellipal Titan, which emerged as a concept during a blockchain meeting in 2019, where David proposed a cold wallet that he code-named “air-gapped cold wallet”.
This concept was applied to Ellipal’s product, the Ellipal hardware wallet. Over time, the Ellipal Titan became a market leader for large-screen air-gapped cold wallets.
Currently, the hardware wallet, Ellipal Titan device supports more than 10,000 crypto coins and tokens and offers staking services, which most hardware wallets fail to provide.
It also pairs with the Ellipal app for easy management and setup.
Pros
- Supports staking of digital assets
- Provides access to dApps
- It is 100% air-gapped
Cons
- Built primarily for beginners
- Customer complaints about usability and security
Ellipal Titan: What Is It?
Ellipal Titan is a Web3 cold wallet that allows users to securely store the private keys of over 10,000 cryptocurrencies offline using the air-gapped security design.
This means that it cannot be connected to the web for transactions using a USB cable, WiFi, Bluetooth, NFC, and cellular networks.
Ellipal wallet also supports the storage of NFTs for supported blockchains.
The hardware wallet’s primary goal is to stand out as a top-tier hardware wallet, offering unrivaled convenience and security on a global scale.
It utilizes QR technology to transfer private keys and blockchain data without an internet connection. This helps to not just increase convenience and portability but enhances the hardware device security.
The Ellipal software wallet (app) works in tandem with the hardware wallet and provides features such as coin swap, sending/receiving, market quote analysis, and dApp connection needed to manage crypto assets.
Ellipal Titan Price Review
Ellipal wallet offers 2 models and each option has a different price point. The first of the two hardware wallets is the Ellipal wallet mini which costs $79.00 alone. If you opt to buy the Ellipal wallet mini case, the combo will cost you $108.90, with the Ellipal case costing $29.90.
The second option of the 2 hardware wallets is the Ellipal Titan, which costs $139.00. In conjunction with the Ellipal wallet case, the price shoots up to $178.90.
Why Use a Cold Storage Wallet?
A cold wallet is an encrypted physical device designed for storage and as the only access point to your cryptocurrency portfolio.
While the terms hardware wallet and cold wallet are used interchangeably, not all hardware wallets are cold storage wallets. This is because despite being isolated from networks most of the time, hardware wallets still need to be connected to an online device for transactions to be done. Cold storage wallets, on the other hand, are 100% air-gapped.
This means that they do not connect to the internet via any hardware or software. Cold wallets are isolated at all times, this ensures the absolute security of the private keys in the device.
That said, many hardware wallets like Ellipal Titan are air-gapped.
When considering a storage solution for your crypto assets, hot wallets may not be your best choice.
Cold storage wallets are better than hot wallets for several reasons.
First, private keys are never exposed with cold wallets. The only place you are required to enter your private key is your encrypted wallet device.
This is 100% more secure than hot wallets. With hot wallets, you will need to hold your private keys on your computer online, where they are vulnerable to being hacked or stolen.
Asides from the security of your private keys, most cold storage wallets have extra security measures in place to ensure that even if the device gets into the wrong hands, the safety of your funds is not compromised.
Most hardware wallets have in-built security features like biometric login, brute force sensor, and resistance as well as automatic wiping of the device at any attempted unauthorized access to the device.
Another benefit of cold storage wallets is their versatility. Most cold storage wallets support the storage of cryptocurrencies across different blockchains. Most hot wallets are limited in this aspect as most of them are built to support cryptocurrencies in a few blockchains.
So if you are looking to diversify your crypto holdings, you should get a cold storage wallet.
Cold storage wallets are also best for storing large amounts of cryptocurrencies. While hot wallets are fast and convenient for day-to-day transactions, they are not the best option for large crypto holdings. Their susceptibility to malicious attacks means that you can lose your assets at any time. You should store your crypto assets in cold storage and move them into a hot wallet when the need arises. This will reduce the risk of loss.

Does Ellipal Titan Support NFTs?
Yes, the Ellipal wallet supports NFTs and you can connect the wallet to over 50 NFT marketplaces where you can buy, trade, and sell them directly.
Using the Ellipal app, you can view your NFT arts and collections. Also, NFT 3D model display is supported which is useful for several NFT types.
For supported NFT blockchains, the Ellipal Titan hardware wallet supports Ethereum and Polygon.
How to Set Up the Ellipal Hardware Wallet?
To set up your Ellipal Titan device, turn on your Ellipal device.
Next, select a language and when the subsequent screen shows up use your phone to scan the QR code shown on the cold wallet to download the Ellipal app.
Once the Ellipal app has been downloaded, press Next on the hardware wallet to begin setting up.
Tap on the Create Account option that shows.
Enter the required information which includes the account name and password to create an account.
After this, click Backup Mnemonic Words. The Mnemonic recovery seed phrase consists of 12 words and is used in restoring your account. So you’ll need to copy it accurately on paper and then store it safely. If the Mnemonic recovery seed is lost, you’ll lose access to your crypto assets in that account.
Next, you’ll need to verify the copied mnemonic by entering the 12 words in the order that they were shown to you.
If you make a mistake you can erase it and re-enter by selecting the wrong word and by pressing the Empty button and entering it again.
Once you have verified the mnemonics you can choose the cryptocurrencies you want to store in the particular account.
Ellipal Titan will create new crypto addresses for you.
Ellipal Titan Review: Security
The Ellipal Titan is 100% air-gapped. This means that it is completely isolated from the internet.
The Ellipal device does not support any type of connection, this includes Bluetooth, USB, WiFi, etc.
This makes the wallet device immune to any attack through networks or another device.
Ellipal Titan does not just have protection against remote attacks, it also has security features in place to ensure that if the wallet device gets into the wrong hands, the user’s crypto assets are kept safe.
The hardware wallet has a sensor that detects physical attacks on the device. Once the sensor detects an attempt to open the device, the wallet will self-destruct. This is done to keep the funds on the Ellipal Titan secure.
This results in the deletion of the private keys stored in the wallet. Without the private keys, the hacker will not be able to access your funds.
After the wallet wipes the private keys, you will still be able to recover your assets in a new wallet if you have your recovery phrase.
Ellipal Titan is also protected against supply-chain attacks. This happens when a malicious third-party intercepts the delivery of your wallet device to install malware before shipping it to you.
Most hardware wallets can be tampered with via supply-chain attack without the knowledge of the user.
Ellipal has a security measure in place to ensure that your wallet device is not tampered with before it gets to you.
The Ellipal Titan is made from a strong metal frame and it has a screen that is sealed tightly onto the metal. This makes it impossible for the device to be tampered with, without leaving any serious marks.
If the wallet device you receive has marks it is a tell-tale sign that it has been tampered with.
Since Ellipal Titan does not have any connection to the blockchain, all transactions are done via QR codes.
QR codes travel through light and can not be hacked. All QR codes generated by the Ellipal Titan can be verified by a QR code scanner.
Asides from the QR code scanner, the device has a large display screen where you can double-check your transaction details before approval.
Also, if you do not wish to use the code provided by Ellipal Titan, the device allows you to import your private keys and recovery seeds from your trusted source.
The wallet has a built-in security adapter which is inserted at the bottom of the device. The security adapter provides offline firmware updates and charging to the device when you insert the charging cable into the adapter.
Ellipal Titan also allows you to set up alternate accounts. The alternate account shows up when your wallet is unlocked with your alternate password if the security of your device is threatened.
Access to the wallet is protected by a password. The password consists of about 8 to 32 characters including symbols.
If the incorrect password is input repeatedly, the wallet will assume that an unauthorized party is trying to gain access to the device and it will be automatically erased.
Users who want an additional layer of security for their wallets can also use passphrase protection. This is an extra word that is added to the 12-word recovery phase. The passphrase is used alongside the recovery seed when you want to recover your wallet.
Unlike most hardware wallets Ellipal Titan lacks a secure element which is considered a gold standard in hardware wallet security.
The wallet, however, comes with Mnemonic metal (if you purchase the Ellipal bundle) that can be used to store your recovery seed. The mnemonic metal is built to withstand extreme conditions, is mold proof, fireproof, insect-proof, and waterproof. It can also be secured with a small lock.
The wallet device is not only resistant to brute attacks, but it is also resistant to natural elements. It has an IP65 rating for water and dust resistance. It is also impact and crush resistant.

Alternatives to Ellipal Titan
There are a couple of popular alternatives to the Ellipal Titan, and these include the Ledger wallet (inclusive of both models the Ledger Nano X and Ledger Stax), the Trezor wallet, the Ngrave Zero wallet, and the bit less known SafePal S1 Wallet.
The Ellipal Titan stands out when compared with alternatives due to its large selection of cryptocurrencies (the Ledger Nano X, for example, supports “only” 5,500 crypto coins) and air-gapped security measures.
Also, options like Trezor and the Ledger Nano X aren’t 100% air-gapped, which gives Ellipal Titan the edge when it comes to security.
Final Thoughts
Ellipal Titan is one of the world’s leading air-gapped hardware wallets as it offers a completely offline device that utilizes QR codes to facilitate blockchain transactions.
FAQ
Most frequent questions and answers
Ellipal, the company behind Ellipal Titan, is a Hong Kong based company. However, because it’s a hardware wallet, the location of the brand is inconsequential to its security and features.
Only the owner of the wallet will have access to the private keys of their cryptocurrencies, which gives 100% ownership over stored assets.
The Ellipal Titan supports more cryptocurrencies than the Ledger wallet (including the Ledger Nano X). Ellipal Titan also offers better security features than the Ledger such as being 100% air-gapped and anti-tamper proof.
Also, unlike the Ledger, the Ellipal Titan does not demand that the user installs particular apps to store crypto coins. Rather, each account you create in the Ellipal Titan is capable of supporting all available currencies at once without struggling with the memory storage limit.
Ellipal Titan is a great option for storing your cryptocurrency private keys offline and owning your digital assets.
So how good the hardware wallet is would be determined by what you’re trying to achieve by getting one.
If you’re interested in getting top-notch security for your assets and want to have complete control over your coins then the Ellipal Titan is a good choice.
But if you simply want a place to execute crypto trades quickly for trades then a hardware wallet like the Ellipal Titan isn’t the right option.
