Kraken Fees in 2026: Kraken Pro, Instant Buy and Withdrawal Fees
What Kraken charges in 2026, from its own pages: Kraken Pro maker/taker tiers since the July 9 change, the 1% Instant Buy fee and spread, crypto and US cash withdrawal fees, Kraken+ and staking commission.

How much are Kraken fees in 2026? It depends on which Kraken you use. On Kraken Pro, the order-book platform, trading fees start at 0.40% for maker orders and 0.80% for taker orders, and they fall as your tier rises. Your tier is set by the best of three measures: your 30-day spot volume, your 30-day futures volume, or the value of the assets you hold on Kraken. Kraken says futures volume doesn't count for US, Canadian and New Zealand customers.
The simple Buy, Sell and Convert screens in the Kraken app and on kraken.com cost more. Kraken charges a 1% trading fee on most of those trades, adds a spread to the price, and may add a payment fee on top. Withdrawals have their own fees. Bitcoin costs 0.000015 BTC to send out, and a US ACH withdrawal is free.
We read every Kraken figure on this page from Kraken's own fee schedule and support center on November 4, 2026. Kraken showed us its European site, so we only call a figure a US fee where Kraken's own table marks it "USA only". Where Kraken publishes no number, we say so. For everything else about the exchange, see our Kraken review.
How much does Kraken charge to buy crypto in the app?
Kraken calls these Instant Buy/Sell trades. They include one-off buys, recurring buys and converts on kraken.com or in the Kraken app. You pay up to three things:
- A trading fee. Kraken charges 1% on instant and recurring trades and 1.5% on custom orders. Small instant trades pay a fee of up to $2 instead of the 1%, and Kraken doesn't say where "small" ends. That can cost more than 1%: if the full $2 applies to a $50 buy, that's 4%.
- A spread. The price you see "includes a spread", meaning the gap between the market rate and the rate you get. Kraken says it varies with volatility, asset, order size, VIP status and account activity, and that it "may retain any excess spread".
- A payment fee. Paying by card, Apple Pay, Google Pay or ACH can add a fee, depending on the method.
Card deposits cost the most of the US methods Kraken prices. US customers can only use debit cards, and Kraken shows the total fee on the final confirmation page before you pay. If you add cash with a US debit card instead, Kraken's deposit table lists the fee as $0.25 plus 3.75%. On a $1,000 deposit that's $37.75. Card purchases also lock the same value from withdrawal for 72 hours.
One more charge surprises people. Kraken's "Convert Small Balances" tool, which tidies up leftover amounts below the minimum order size, takes a fixed 3%.
What are Kraken Pro trading fees?
On Kraken Pro you pay a maker or taker fee on each trade. The spread Kraken describes is tied to its Instant Buy/Sell services; on Pro, your order fills at order-book prices. Which fee you pay depends on how your order meets the book:
- Taker: an order that fills at once, such as a market order, pays the taker fee.
- Maker: a limit order that waits on the book until someone matches it pays the lower maker fee.
These Kraken trading fees apply to almost every crypto pair. Kraken's July 2026 support article shows one table with no separate US version, though we read it from an EU connection. Here it is up to Tier 12, by 30-day spot trading volume in US dollars:
| Tier (30-day spot volume) | Maker fee | Taker fee |
|---|---|---|
| Tier 1 ($0 and up) | 0.40% | 0.80% |
| Tier 2 ($2,500+) | 0.30% | 0.60% |
| Tier 3 ($10,000+) | 0.22% | 0.38% |
| Tier 4 ($25,000+) | 0.20% | 0.35% |
| Tier 5 ($50,000+) | 0.15% | 0.30% |
| Tier 6 ($100,000+) | 0.12% | 0.25% |
| Tier 7 ($250,000+) | 0.10% | 0.22% |
| Tier 8 ($500,000+) | 0.08% | 0.20% |
| Tier 9 ($1 million+) | 0.06% | 0.18% |
| Tier 10 ($2.5 million+) | 0.04% | 0.15% |
| Tier 11 ($5 million+) | 0.02% | 0.12% |
| Tier 12 ($10 million+) | 0.00% | 0.10% |
Five "Pro" tiers, starting at $50 million, take the taker fee down to 0.05%. Kraken reassesses your tier after every trade. A short list of lower-liquidity pairs pays slightly less: 0.38% maker at Tier 1, falling to a 0.02% rebate at the top.
Holding assets can lower your tier
Since July 9, 2026, Kraken uses "the most favorable of the three measures" to set your tier: spot volume, futures volume or Assets on Platform. For US, Canadian and New Zealand customers, futures volume doesn't count. Assets on Platform is "the total USD value of eligible assets you hold on Kraken", including staked assets. So $20,000 held on Kraken puts you on Tier 3 (0.22% / 0.38%) even if you rarely trade.
Two catches. Assets on Platform is measured at a point in time, not averaged, and "if the market drops, your AoP value drops and your tier adjusts immediately". And buys through Instant Buy don't count toward your spot volume at all.
Stablecoin and FX pairs
Pairs with a stablecoin or currency as the base, such as USDT/USD or EUR/USD, use their own schedule: 0.20% maker and 0.20% taker below $50,000 of 30-day volume. Pairs with the USDG stablecoin as the base charge 0% maker and 0.01% taker. If the stablecoin is only the quote currency, as in BTC/USDT, the normal crypto schedule applies. Our stablecoin guide explains how stablecoins work.
What a $1,000 trade costs on Kraken
Take a $1,000 bitcoin buy. Through Instant Buy, the 1% fee is $10.00, before the spread and any card fee. On Kraken Pro at Tier 1, a market order pays the 0.80% taker fee: $8.00. Post the same $1,000 as a limit order below the price and wait for it to fill, and you pay the 0.40% maker fee: $4.00. With $20,000 held on Kraken (Tier 3), those two orders cost $3.80 and $2.20. To compare the same trade on other exchanges, use our crypto fee calculator.
Why do other guides quote Kraken fees of 0.16% or 0.26%?
Because those figures predate July 9, 2026, the day Kraken moved to cross-platform tiers and changed its rates. Kraken's support article says "new tiers were introduced and some existing fees changed" on July 9, and the current entry tier is 0.40% / 0.80%. Many guides still carry the older numbers.
Ours did too. Until this update, our Kraken review quoted 0.16% maker and 0.26% taker, and until November 3 our Coinbase and Crypto.com reviews listed Kraken Pro at 0.25% / 0.40%. We've corrected those pages and every other Skrumble page that repeated those figures. If a guide gives you a Kraken Pro fee, check its date against July 2026.
What does Kraken charge to withdraw?
Each crypto has its own withdrawal fee, set in that coin. US bank withdrawals by ACH are free. FedWire withdrawals cost $4 (SWIFT costs $13), and instant RTP withdrawals cost 1.50%, capped at $50. Kraken says it "may adjust its deposit and withdrawal fees", and the fee shown when you confirm is the one you pay.
Crypto withdrawals
Kraken's withdrawal fee table listed these Kraken withdrawal fees on November 4, 2026. The minimum includes the fee:
| Asset (network) | Withdrawal fee | Minimum withdrawal |
|---|---|---|
| Bitcoin | 0.000015 BTC | 0.000218 BTC |
| Ethereum | 0.00014 ETH | 0.000168 ETH |
| Solana | 0.005 SOL | 0.011 SOL |
| USDC (Ethereum) | 0.634 USDC | 0.7608 USDC |
| USDT (Tron) | 1 USDT | 6 USDT |
| XRP | 0.05 XRP | 12.05 XRP |
Bitcoin over Lightning has no fixed fee but takes 0.1%. The network matters for stablecoins. USDT costs 0.6265 USDT to send on Ethereum but 1 USDT on Tron, with a 6 USDT minimum. Kraken calls its funding fees "both Static (fixed) and Dynamic (variable)", so check the figure on the withdrawal screen.
Deposits are mostly free. Kraken says "most cryptocurrency deposits are free" and a few coins carry an address setup or deposit fee. Watch the minimums. A deposit below the minimum after network fees is marked "Failed", and Kraken says the funds are permanently lost.
Cash deposits and withdrawals in the US
Kraken's cash deposit and cash withdrawal tables list these main US dollar options:
| Method (USD) | Deposit fee | Withdrawal fee |
|---|---|---|
| ACH (USA only) | Free (via Plaid) | Free, 0 to 2 business days |
| FedWire (USA only) | Free | $4, 0 to 1 business days |
| Debit card (USA only) | $0.25 + 3.75% | Not listed |
| PayPal (USA only) | Processing fee, shown at confirmation | Not listed |
| RTP (USA only) | Not listed | 1.50%, up to $50 |
Deposits come with holds. ACH deposits through Plaid can be traded at once but can't be withdrawn for seven days. ACH, PayPal, card and digital wallet purchases trigger a 72-hour withdrawal hold. Kraken also notes its deposit fees exclude anything your own bank charges to send the transfer. Moving money between two Kraken accounts through its Krak app costs nothing.
In euros, SEPA deposits are free and SEPA withdrawals cost €1, or €0.90 through one instant SEPA provider. A debit card deposit in the EEA costs €0.25 plus 3.75%.
Is Kraken+ worth $4.99 a month?
Only if you use Instant Buy. Kraken+ costs $4.99 a month or $49.99 a year and waives the trading fee on up to $10,000 of Buy, Sell and Convert trades each month. If your instant trades pay the 1% fee, it pays off above about $500 a month. Monthly billing and the 30-day free trial are only in the app; on the web it's annual only.
The math is simple because Kraken publishes its 1% fee. $4.99 equals the fee on $499 of instant trades, and the yearly plan's $4.17 a month equals the fee on $417. Small buys change that. Three $50 buys that each pay the full $2 would cost $6, more than a month of Kraken+. The limits matter too. "Spreads and card processing fees still apply", and Kraken+ doesn't cover Kraken Pro, futures, API or OTC trades. If you already trade on Pro, it saves you nothing on fees.
What other fees does Kraken charge?
- Staking. Staking and unstaking are free, but Kraken takes a commission on your rewards. Its staking help article, updated November 2, 2026, puts bonded staking at 25% for balances under $1 million (falling to 0% above $100 million) and flexible staking and Auto Earn at 30%. Kraken's fee schedule page still says 20% for flexible staking, so the two Kraken pages disagree. The APYs shown in the app are before Kraken's commission. Our staking guide explains how rewards work.
- Margin. Margin trades pay an opening fee and a rollover fee every 4 hours, on top of the trading fee: 0.01% to 0.02% each for bitcoin, 0.02% to 0.04% for most other assets. A forced liquidation adds a 2% fee.
- Futures. Kraken Futures, Kraken's international platform, starts at 0.02% maker and 0.05% taker. For US, Canadian and New Zealand customers, Kraken's fee page says those futures "are not available or do not apply to cross-platform tier qualification". US customers trade futures through Kraken Derivatives US, which charges per contract instead: its US futures fee page lists an all-in $0.0113 per contract per side on perpetual futures. In some countries the Kraken app also sells perpetuals at 0.25% to open and 0.25% to close.
- Stocks. US customers can trade more than 11,000 stocks and ETFs with zero commission, though regulators' fees may be passed on. Where Kraken offers tokenized xStocks, buying them with USD or USDG carries no trading fee.
How do Kraken fees compare with other exchanges?
At the entry tier, Kraken Pro's maker fee matches Coinbase's public schedule and its taker fee is the highest of the four. These are the lowest-volume maker/taker rates each exchange publishes on its own fee page. We read Kraken on November 4, Coinbase on November 3 and the other two on October 17, 2026:
| Exchange | Entry maker / taker | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Kraken Pro | 0.40% / 0.80% | Tier 3 (0.22% / 0.38%) from $20,000 held |
| Coinbase (public schedule) | 0.40% / 0.60% | Below $10,000 of 30-day volume |
| Crypto.com Exchange | 0.25% / 0.50% | Separate from the Crypto.com App |
| Binance.com | 0.10% / 0.10% | Not for US residents |
Sources: the Coinbase Exchange, Crypto.com Exchange and Binance fee pages. For a small trader who keeps a balance on the exchange, Kraken's asset route is the difference that matters, because $20,000 held on Kraken buys Tier 3 rates without a single trade. Coinbase Advanced also counts balances toward its tiers, but shows its own tier table only after you sign in.
How can you cut your Kraken fees?
- Trade on Kraken Pro, not Instant Buy. A Tier 1 market order costs 0.80% at order-book prices, against 1% plus a spread in the app.
- Post limit orders. A resting limit order pays the maker fee, half the taker fee at Tier 1.
- Fund by ACH, not debit card. ACH deposits are free; a debit card deposit costs $0.25 plus 3.75%.
- Skip tiny instant buys. A fee of up to $2 on a small order can cost several percent.
- Count your balance. If you hold $20,000 or more on Kraken, you're on Tier 3 or better without trading.
- Withdraw cash by ACH. It's free; RTP costs 1.50% up to $50, and a FedWire withdrawal costs $4.
- Buy Kraken+ only for Instant Buy. At the 1% fee it pays off above about $500 a month of instant trades, sooner if you make many small buys. It does nothing for Pro.
