Best Crypto Bridges: Cross-Chain Solution in 2026
The best crypto bridges we have fully reviewed, ranked on security, speed, fees and chain coverage, with fees checked in October 2026 and three bridges we no longer recommend.
The short answer
- Across Protocol is the best crypto bridge for most transfers in 2026. On 9 October 2026 it quoted 0.107 USDC to move 1,000 USDC from Ethereum to Arbitrum, with an estimated fill time of about 2 seconds.
- Stargate is the pick for moving native USDC, USDT and ETH between the large EVM chains. LayerZero has owned it since August 2025, and STG holders can convert to ZRO until 15 December 2026.
- Arbitrum's official bridge is the safest way between Ethereum and Arbitrum (L2BEAT rates Arbitrum One Stage 1) and charges no bridge fee, but withdrawals back to Ethereum take about seven days.
- Portal Bridge (Wormhole) is the one to use for Solana and other non-EVM chains. Jump Crypto covered its 2022 loss of 120,000 wETH the next day, and DefiLlama lists no Wormhole exploit since.
- We no longer recommend Hop Protocol, Orbit Bridge or Binance Bridge. Hop's official site now serves an unrelated gambling page, Orbit lost about $81.5 million in January 2024 and never recovered it, and Binance Bridge is no longer offered.
Across Protocol leads for most transfers in 2026. Stargate is our pick for native stablecoins between the big EVM chains, Arbitrum's own bridge is the safest route between Ethereum and Arbitrum, and Portal (Wormhole) covers Solana and other non-EVM chains. These are the best crypto bridges we have fully reviewed, scored with our bridge methodology, which weights security and audits highest, at 35%.
A lot has changed since our 2025 ranking. Three bridges are out: Hop, Orbit Bridge and Binance Bridge. Across now routes Tron, BNB Chain and Solana (Solana only through Circle's CCTP since its July 2026 incident), and its token holders voted to convert ACX into AcrossCo equity or a USDC buyback. Stargate became part of LayerZero, Wormhole retired a string of chains, and Synapse's main domain now redirects to an options venue. Bridge losses kept coming too. In April 2026 Kelp's rsETH lost about $292 million through its own one-verifier LayerZero setup, which is why security carries the most weight in our scores.
We only rank bridges with a full, scored Skrumble review. We have not ranked deBridge, Relay, LI.FI (Jumper), Celer cBridge, Rango or Circle's CCTP as a standalone route yet. CCTP still shows up here as a route inside Across, Portal and Synapse.

Best Crypto Bridges: Our Take
6 rankedSome links below are affiliate links. They never decide what is listed or where it ranks. How we make money.
How we picked
- It has a full, published Skrumble review scored with our bridge methodology: security and audits 35%, speed 20%, fees 20%, chain coverage 15%, reliability 10%.
- Its official app was online when we checked on 9 and 10 October 2026.
- No protocol exploit has left its users with a confirmed, unrecovered loss. We disclose past incidents on each card, with what happened to the money.
- Fees and speed come from a live quote where the bridge offers a public one (Across), otherwise from the bridge's own docs or L2BEAT, and we say which.
- The order follows the review score. The label on each card says what that bridge is best for.
- Further down, we list the bridges we have reviewed but no longer recommend, with the reason.

1. Across Protocol (Best overall)
Best overall4.5/5Skrumble scoreIntent-based bridge that fills in seconds on the main Ethereum layer 2 routes
Across is the quickest way we found to move money between Ethereum and its layer 2s. Relayers pay you on the destination chain from their own funds and Across repays them later, so you don't wait for the source chain to settle. Our 1,000 USDC quote from Ethereum to Arbitrum on 9 October 2026 cost 0.107 USDC (about 0.011%) with an estimated 2-second fill.
- Type
- Intent-based: relayers front funds, Across repays them
- Chains
- 20+, including Tron and BNB Chain; Solana via CCTP
- Speed
- About 2 s Ethereum to Arbitrum; about 20 s to Solana
- Fees
- 0.107 USDC on 1,000 USDC, Ethereum to Arbitrum (9 Oct 2026), plus origin gas
- Security model
- Optimistic settlement with UMA disputes; ZK proofs since V4
- Audits
- OpenZeppelin (listed in the Across docs)
- Incidents
- July 2026: a relayer lost under $4M net; user funds unaffected
- Value locked
- $18.9M (intent model, not a cap on transfers)
Watch out: A 3-of-5 multisig can upgrade Across's Ethereum and OP SpokePools with no delay, and a separate 3-of-5 multisig can do the same to its V5 Gateway. In July 2026 a flaw in Risk Labs' Solana event reader let an attacker fake deposits. Risk Labs' own relayer lost under $4 million net and user funds were not affected, but Solana transfers now run only through Circle's CCTP (about 20 seconds in our quote).

2. Stargate Finance (Best for native assets)
Best for native assets4.1/5Skrumble scorePool transfers of native USDC, USDT and ETH between major EVM chains
Stargate moves native USDC, USDT and ETH out of shared liquidity pools, so on its pool chains you receive the real asset rather than a wrapped copy. Every transfer now goes by Stargate Taxi, which averaged about one minute on L2BEAT. The only incident DefiLlama lists is a $43,000 phishing case in December 2023.
- Type
- Liquidity pools on LayerZero; minted tokens (Hydra) on smaller chains
- Chains
- 46 with contracts; no Solana
- Speed
- About 1 minute (Taxi average, L2BEAT)
- Fees
- Dynamic per route, shown in the app
- Security model
- LayerZero verifier networks (DVNs); 5-of-7 admin multisig
- Audits
- Zellic and OtterSec (Stargate V2)
- Incidents
- No protocol exploit; $43K phishing case (Dec 2023)
- Value locked
- $100M (was $504M a year earlier)
Watch out: Stargate is shrinking. Its value locked fell from $504 million to $100 million in a year, and it removed chains and pools in 2026. LayerZero bought it in August 2025, STG converts to ZRO only until 15 December 2026, and since a June 2026 upgrade the owner can change pool credits without LayerZero checking them.

3. Arbitrum Bridge (Best for Ethereum to Arbitrum)
Best for Ethereum to Arbitrum4.0/5Skrumble scoreArbitrum's own bridge: no bridge fee and rollup-grade security, but slow withdrawals
If you are moving funds between Ethereum and Arbitrum and can wait, the official bridge is the safest option here. L2BEAT rates Arbitrum One Stage 1. Since BoLD went live in February 2025, anyone can challenge a bad state update. You pay no bridge fee, only Ethereum gas and a small Arbitrum execution cost, which came to cents with gas at about 0.1 gwei on 9 October 2026.
- Type
- Official (canonical) rollup bridge
- Chains
- Ethereum, Arbitrum One and Nova, Arbitrum L3s
- Speed
- Deposits 15 to 30 min; withdrawals about 7 days
- Fees
- No bridge fee; gas plus a small L2 execution cost
- Security model
- L2BEAT Stage 1; BoLD fraud proofs; 12-member Security Council
- Audits
- Not verified for this ranking
- Incidents
- No loss of bridge funds; 2022 bug found by a whitehat (400 ETH bounty)
- Value locked
- $3.55B in the bridge escrow
Watch out: Withdrawals to Ethereum take about seven days because of the challenge period, and the bridge only connects Ethereum, Arbitrum One, Arbitrum Nova and Arbitrum's L3 chains. A 12-member Security Council can act without delay in an emergency (9 signatures needed), and it did so twice in 2026.

4. Portal Bridge (Best for Solana and non-EVM)
Best for Solana and non-EVM3.9/5Skrumble scoreWormhole's bridge for Solana, Sui, Algorand, Near and other non-EVM chains
Portal is our pick for Solana and other non-EVM chains such as Sui, Algorand and Near, each of which still holds Portal funds on DefiLlama. Wormhole's 19 Guardians approve transfers, with 13 signatures required, and Wormhole lists 29 third-party audits. Besides wrapped tokens, the Portal app routes native USDC through Circle's CCTP and token swaps through Mayan.
- Type
- Lock-and-mint wrapped tokens, plus CCTP, NTT and Mayan swap routes
- Chains
- 30+ claimed; 13 hold funds on DefiLlama
- Speed
- Route-dependent; standard routes wait for source finality
- Fees
- Shown in the quote; gas on both chains; relayed routes add a relayer fee
- Security model
- 19 Guardians, 13 must sign; Governor limits
- Audits
- 29 third-party audits
- Incidents
- Feb 2022: 120,000 wETH (about $326M), replaced by Jump
- Value locked
- $1.62B
Watch out: In February 2022 an attacker minted 120,000 wETH (about $326 million), and Jump Crypto replaced it the next day. Chains get dropped, too. Since 2025 Wormhole has retired Fantom, Scroll, Berachain and Injective, so check that your chain is still listed. Standard transfers wait for the source chain to finalise, so from Ethereum they take minutes rather than seconds.

5. Orbiter Finance (Most chains)
Most chains3.7/5Skrumble scoreMaker-run bridge covering 74 chains, including Starknet, TON and Tron
Orbiter lists 74 mainnet chains in its docs, 13 of them non-EVM (Solana, Starknet, TON, Sui and Tron among them), the widest coverage we rank. Unlike the other bridges here, Orbiter pays you through a maker, who receives your funds in their wallet and sends the payout on the destination chain. SlowMist has audited its bridge and maker contracts, and we found no protocol exploit.
- Type
- Maker model: a maker's wallet pays you out
- Chains
- 74 in its docs (13 non-EVM)
- Speed
- Not measured; depends on the maker
- Fees
- Maker's % fee plus a fixed withholding fee
- Security model
- You trust the maker; arbitration path documented
- Audits
- SlowMist (3 reports)
- Incidents
- No protocol exploit; Discord hijacked in June 2023
- Value locked
- Not trackable (funds sit in maker wallets)
Watch out: You are trusting the maker to pay. Orbiter documents an arbitration path for failed transfers but doesn't say whether it is live on every route, and its value locked can't be tracked because funds sit in maker wallets. The last four digits of the amount encode the destination, so never edit the amount by hand.

6. Synapse Protocol (Established alternative)
Established alternative3.3/5Skrumble scoreLong-running bridge that routes through pools, mint-and-burn, CCTP or intents
Synapse has run since 2021 and still works at bridge.synapseprotocol.com. Its router picks between liquidity pools, mint-and-burn bridging and Circle's CCTP for native USDC, and the Synapse Intent Network runs alongside it, across more than 16 chains and 8 tokens.
- Type
- Router across pools, mint-and-burn and CCTP, plus intents
- Chains
- 16+ on the bridge page; 8 tokens
- Speed
- Not published
- Fees
- Not published; shown in the quote
- Security model
- Validators on pool routes; relayers checked by Guards on intents
- Audits
- None listed on DefiLlama
- Incidents
- Nov 2021: about $8M drained from a pool; mint reversed
- Value locked
- $9.65M (peak $1.16B)
Watch out: Synapse's value locked is $9.65 million, down from $1.16 billion in January 2022, and synapseprotocol.com now redirects to Hypercall, an options venue on Hyperliquid. In November 2021 an attacker drained about $8 million from one of its pools; validators reversed the cross-chain mint and the team said liquidity providers would be made whole.
Comparison Table of the Best Cross-Chain Bridges
| Cross-Chain Bridge | Best for | Type | Chains | Fees | Speed | Hack history | Skrumble score |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Overall; layer 2 to layer 2 | Intent-based | 20+ (Solana via CCTP) | 0.107 USDC per 1,000 USDC (Ethereum to Arbitrum) | About 2 s (Ethereum to Arbitrum) | Jul 2026 relayer loss; users unaffected | 4.5/5 | |
| Native USDC, USDT, ETH | Liquidity pools (LayerZero) | 46; no Solana | Dynamic, shown in app | About 1 min | No protocol exploit | 4.1/5 | |
| Ethereum to Arbitrum | Canonical rollup bridge | Ethereum, Arbitrum, L3s | No bridge fee; gas plus small L2 cost | 15 to 30 min in; 7 days out | No loss of funds | 4.0/5 | |
| Solana and non-EVM | Lock-and-mint + CCTP | 30+ claimed | Shown in quote | Minutes (route-dependent) | 2022: $326M, fully replaced | 3.9/5 | |
| Most chains | Maker model | 74 | % fee + fixed fee | Not measured | No protocol exploit | 3.7/5 | |
| Established alternative | Pools, CCTP, intents | 16+ | Not published | Not published | 2021: about $8M, mint reversed | 3.3/5 |
Fees and speeds checked 9 October 2026; value locked from DefiLlama the same day. For more columns, compare these bridges side by side.
1. Across Protocol: Best Crypto Bridge With Capital Efficiency Design
Key Features of Across Protocol
Across is built around intents. You state what you want to receive on the destination chain, a relayer fills it from its own capital, and Across settles the relayer's repayment later through its HubPool on Ethereum. V4 went live on 2 July 2025 with settlement backed by zero-knowledge proofs, and the routable network now covers more than 20 chains, including Tron and BNB Chain, with Solana reached through Circle's CCTP. Across says on its homepage that it has moved over $40 billion for 5 million users. In April 2026 its token holders voted, with 91.5% in favour, to convert ACX into equity in AcrossCo or a USDC buyback.
Across Protocol Security
A relayer's claim for repayment can be challenged before it settles, and disputes go to UMA's optimistic oracle. The audit list in the Across docs names OpenZeppelin only. L2BEAT notes that a 3-of-5 multisig can upgrade the Ethereum and OP SpokePools with no delay, and a separate 3-of-5 multisig can do the same for the V5 Gateway, which is the main trust assumption to accept. On 17 July 2026 an attacker exploited Risk Labs' Solana event reader to fake deposits; Risk Labs' relayer lost under $4 million net, the contracts were not compromised and users were unaffected.
Across Protocol Fees
You pay a relayer fee (destination gas plus the relayer's capital cost), an LP fee that falls to zero when the relayer is repaid on the origin chain, and origin-chain gas. Our quote on 9 October 2026 at 22:02 UTC showed a fee of 0.107101 USDC to send 1,000 USDC from Ethereum to Arbitrum, so we would have received 999.89 USDC. Read our full Across Protocol review.
2. Stargate Finance: Best Cross Chain Bridge For Cross-chain Swaps in Native Assets
Key Features of Stargate Finance
Stargate's docs list unified pools for USDC, USDT and ETH on 18 chains and Hydra tokens on 28 more, 46 chains with contracts and no Solana, though it deprecated several remote pools on 24 September 2026. Stargate ended its Bus mode, and since 1 October 2026 every transfer goes by Taxi. In August 2025 nearly 95% of voters in Stargate's DAO approved a LayerZero takeover worth about $120 million in ZRO. Wormhole had made a late counter-bid. STG converts to ZRO at 0.08634 until 15 December 2026.
Stargate Finance Security
LayerZero's decentralised verifier networks check each message, and Stargate's docs name the Stargate DVN and Nethermind among them. A 5-of-7 multisig controls admin actions. Zellic and OtterSec audited Stargate V2. Since a June 2026 credit-messaging upgrade, the owner can adjust pool credits without LayerZero verification. The April 2026 Kelp rsETH drain of about $292 million came from Kelp's own one-verifier setup on LayerZero, not from Stargate.
Stargate Finance Fees
Fees are dynamic per route. A pool transfer can pay a treasury fee or earn a rebalancing reward, and you also pay LayerZero's message fee and gas. Check the fee in the app before you confirm. Read our full Stargate Finance review.
3. Arbitrum Bridge: Best Cross Chain Bridge for ERC-20 Tokens Between Ethereum and Arbitrum
Key Features of Arbitrum Bridge
This is the rollup's own canonical bridge, now at portal.arbitrum.io/bridge. It connects Ethereum with Arbitrum One (an optimistic rollup), Arbitrum Nova (which relies on a data availability committee) and the L3 chains built on Arbitrum One. About $3.55 billion sits in its escrow. Our explainer on how rollups work covers the background.
Arbitrum Bridge Security
L2BEAT rates Arbitrum One Stage 1. Since BoLD went live on 15 February 2025, anyone can challenge an invalid state assertion by posting a bond in ETH. A Security Council of 12 can act with no delay when 9 of them sign, and users can force a transaction through Ethereum if the sequencer ignores them. In 2022 a whitehat found an Inbox bug and received a 400 ETH bounty; no funds were lost.
Arbitrum Bridge Fees
There is no bridge fee. You pay Ethereum gas plus a small Arbitrum execution cost, and with Ethereum gas at 0.111 gwei on 9 October 2026 that came to cents. Deposits arrive in 15 to 30 minutes, and withdrawals back to Ethereum take at least seven days while the challenge period runs. Read our full Arbitrum Bridge review.
4. Portal Bridge (Wormhole): Best Crypto Bridge for Solana and Non-EVM Chains
Key Features of Portal Bridge
Portal combines Wormhole's Token Bridge, which locks a token on one chain and mints a wrapped version on another, with native USDC through CCTP, Wormhole's NTT tokens and Portal Swap powered by Mayan. Portal claims more than 30 chains, and 13 hold funds on DefiLlama. It is our pick for Solana and other non-EVM chains. Wormhole has also retired chains since 2025, including Fantom (October 2025), Scroll (April 2026), Berachain (August 2026) and Injective (September 2026).
Portal Bridge Security
Transfers need signatures from 13 of Wormhole's 19 Guardians, and a Governor and Global Accountant limit and check flows. Wormhole lists 29 third-party audits. On 2 February 2022 a Solana-side signature bypass minted 120,000 wETH, worth about $326 million; Jump Crypto replaced the 120,000 ETH the next day, and DefiLlama lists no Wormhole exploit since.
Portal Bridge Fees
The fee is shown in the quote. You pay gas on both chains, and relayed routes add a relayer fee. Wormhole's current docs give no fixed amounts, so compare the quote before you confirm. Read our full Portal Bridge review.
5. Orbiter Finance: Best Cross Chain Bridge For Ethereum Native Assets and Wide Chain Coverage
Key Features of Orbiter Finance
Orbiter lists 74 mainnet chains, 61 EVM and 13 non-EVM, including Solana, Starknet, TON, Sui, Tron and Fuel, and offers swaps as well as bridging. Its OBT token launched on 20 January 2025 with a supply of 10 billion.
Orbiter Finance Security
You send funds to a maker's wallet, and the maker pays you on the destination chain. Never edit the amount. Its last four digits encode the destination, so changing them breaks the transfer. Orbiter documents an arbitration design for failed transfers, and its docs list three SlowMist audit reports. We found no protocol exploit, though hackers took over its Discord on 1 June 2023 to post a fake airdrop.
Orbiter Finance Fees
Each maker charges a percentage trading fee plus a fixed withholding fee for destination gas. Orbiter's docs give two undated examples from Ethereum to zkSync: 1 ETH costs 0.03% plus 0.0014 ETH, and 100 USDC costs 0.3% plus 1.5 USDC. Read our full Orbiter Finance review.
6. Synapse Protocol: Blockchain Bridge With Pool, CCTP and Intent Routes
Key Features of Synapse Protocol
The Synapse Router picks a route for you: canonical mint-and-burn, liquidity pools (nUSD and nETH) or CCTP for native USDC. Synapse also runs the Synapse Intent Network, where relayers front the funds. It covers more than 16 chains and 8 bridge tokens. Use bridge.synapseprotocol.com, because the main synapseprotocol.com domain now redirects to Hypercall, an options venue.
Synapse Protocol Security
Intent routes are optimistic, with relayers proving fills during a dispute window watched by Guards. Validators sign older pool routes, and their reversal of a mint in 2021 shows the set is permissioned. In November 2021 a bug in forked Saddle code let an attacker drain about $8 million from the Avalanche nUSD metapool. Validators reversed the cross-chain mint, and the team told liquidity providers they would be made whole.
Synapse Protocol Fees
Synapse doesn't publish a fee schedule. Its fee changes by route, and you see it only in the quote. Read our full Synapse Protocol review.
Cheapest crypto bridge: what 1,000 USDC from Ethereum to Arbitrum costs
On the route we priced, Ethereum to Arbitrum, the official Arbitrum bridge has the lowest bridge fee and Across gives the best fee for the speed. With Ethereum gas near 0.1 gwei, the bridge fee and the wait matter more than gas.
| Bridge | Bridge fee | Expected time | Basis |
|---|---|---|---|
| Across | 0.107 USDC (0.011%), plus Ethereum gas | About 2 seconds | Live API quote |
| Arbitrum Bridge | No bridge fee; Ethereum gas plus a small L2 execution cost (cents) | 15 to 30 minutes | Arbitrum docs; received USDC type (native or USDC.e) not verified |
Stargate, Portal and Synapse show their fees only in their own quote screens, and Orbiter's docs give only undated examples, so we leave all four out rather than estimate. Check the quote screen before you sign, and use our bridge comparison tool for the other columns.
What is a Crypto Bridge?
A crypto bridge moves value between blockchains that can't read each other's ledgers. It locks, burns or pools an asset on one chain and releases or mints the matching asset on the other. Arbitrum's bridge, for example, locks your ETH in a contract on Ethereum and credits the same amount on Arbitrum.
The token you receive can be native or wrapped. A wrapped token is an IOU backed by whatever the bridge locked, so it is only as safe as the bridge. Circle's CCTP avoids that for USDC. It burns USDC on one chain, and Circle mints native USDC on the other. If you are new to this, start with how to bridge crypto, stablecoins like USDC, DeFi and Ethereum.
Types of crypto bridges: canonical, lock-and-mint, liquidity and intent-based
Every bridge asks you to trust something. The table shows what that is for each design, with examples we have reviewed. Most of them run on smart contracts. The exceptions are the custodial model, where an exchange holds the funds, and the maker model, where you pay a maker's ordinary wallet.
| Type | How it works | You trust | Examples we reviewed |
|---|---|---|---|
| Canonical rollup bridge | The rollup's own contracts lock and release funds | The rollup's proof system and its Security Council | Arbitrum Bridge |
| Lock-and-mint | Locks the asset and mints a wrapped copy | The validator or multisig set | Portal, Orbit Bridge |
| Liquidity network | Pools on each chain pay out the native asset | Pool contracts and messaging | Stargate, Synapse pools |
| Intent-based | A relayer fills you, then gets repaid | Settlement and dispute rules | Across, Synapse Intent Network |
| Maker model | A maker's wallet pays you on the other chain | The maker | Orbiter |
| Burn-and-mint (USDC) | Circle burns and mints native USDC | Circle | CCTP inside Across, Portal and Synapse |
| Custodial | An exchange holds and moves the funds | The exchange | Binance Bridge 2.0 (no longer offered) |
Is Bridging in Crypto Safe?
Bridging is riskier than holding on one chain. Bridges keep large pools of funds behind a small set of keys or code paths, which makes them a favourite target. The incidents below show what can go wrong, and what happened to the money afterwards.
| Date | Incident | Amount | Outcome |
|---|---|---|---|
| Feb 2022 | Wormhole (Portal), Solana signature bypass | 120,000 wETH, about $326M | Replaced by Jump Crypto the next day |
| Oct 2022 | BNB Chain's BSC Token Hub, forged proof | 2M BNB minted (about $570M) | $100M to $137M moved off chain; about $7M frozen |
| Jul 2023 | Multichain | About $126M in abnormal outflows | Operations ceased 14 Jul 2023 |
| Jan 2024 | Orbit Bridge, 7-of-10 multisig vault | About $81.5M | Not recovered |
| Apr 2026 | Kelp rsETH via LayerZero, the app's own 1-of-1 verifier | About $292M | Root cause in the app's setup |
| Jul 2026 | Across relayer (Solana event reader) | Under $4M net, relayer capital | Users unaffected |
| Sep 2026 | Liquid Network (Blockstream sidechain peg) | About $320M paid out | About 85% returned; about $47M outstanding |
Before you move a meaningful amount, run through this list:
- Bookmark the bridge's official URL. Impersonation sites exist, and Hop's old domain now serves an unrelated site.
- For large amounts, prefer a canonical bridge or a native USDC route over wrapped tokens.
- Read the bridge's incident record and check whether users were repaid.
- Send a small test transfer first.
- Revoke token approvals you no longer need.
- Don't sit on wrapped tokens of a chain that is closing. Keep funds in a self-custody wallet.
How to Choose the Right Crypto Bridge?
Choose by route first. The right crypto bridge depends on where your funds are, where they need to go and how fast you need them.
| If you are moving | Use | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Funds from Ethereum to Arbitrum and can wait 7 days to exit | Arbitrum Bridge | Canonical, no bridge fee |
| Funds between Ethereum layer 2s quickly (Arbitrum, Base, Optimism) | Across | About 2 s and 0.011% quoted from Ethereum to Arbitrum |
| Native USDC, USDT or ETH between large EVM chains | Stargate | Pools pay out the native asset |
| USDC to Solana | Portal or Across (both via CCTP) | Native USDC at both ends |
| To or from other non-EVM chains (Sui, Algorand, Near) | Portal | Covers Sui, Algorand and Near; Orbiter lists Sui but not the other two |
| To or from a chain such as Starknet or TON | Orbiter, small amounts first | Both are on Orbiter's 74-chain list; you trust the maker |
Then check five things: the trust model, the incident record, whether you receive a native or wrapped token, the total quoted cost and how long it takes to come back out.
How to use a crypto bridge in six steps
- Connect a wallet: MetaMask or Rabby for EVM chains, Phantom for Solana.
- Pick the source and destination chains and the token.
- Check what you will receive: the native asset or a wrapped one.
- Check the quote: bridge fee, gas and expected time.
- Approve the token, then confirm the transfer.
- Add the destination network to your wallet if you don't see the funds (our MetaMask guide shows how).
Our step-by-step guide to bridging crypto covers each route in detail.
What changed since our 2025 ranking of the best crypto bridges
- Out: Hop Protocol (effectively abandoned; its domain now serves an unrelated gambling page), Orbit Bridge (hacked, funds never recovered) and Binance Bridge (no longer offered).
- Up: Arbitrum Bridge moved from sixth to third. It has the highest security score of the six, and it charges no bridge fee (our 2025 page wrongly listed an average of $0.25).
- Down: Synapse moved from third to sixth as its value locked shrank and its main domain started redirecting to an options venue.
- Relabelled: Portal is now our pick for Solana and non-EVM chains rather than for low fees.
- New facts: Across V4 and V5 and its Solana route via CCTP; Stargate under LayerZero; Wormhole's chain retirements.
Reviewed, but not recommended in 2026
We have full reviews of these bridges too. Here is why they are not on the list.
Hop ProtocolHop is effectively abandoned. When we checked on 9 October 2026, its official website served an unrelated gambling page and its app returned an error. The last DAO vote was in March 2025. About $3.75 million is still locked in its contracts (DefiLlama, 9 October 2026); do not use lookalike Hop sites.
Orbit BridgeOrbit Bridge lost about $81.5 million on 1 January 2024 (Korean time) when an attacker obtained enough signatures to meet the vault's 7-of-10 multisig threshold. The funds were never recovered. Silicon, the network holding Orbit's migrated Ethereum assets, stopped deposits on 2 September 2026 and allows withdrawals only until 31 December 2026 at 12:00 KST before it shuts down, so withdraw before then.
Binance BridgeBinance Bridge is no longer a standalone product. Its page returned a 404 when we checked on 9 October 2026, and BNB Chain's bridge page has dropped it. BNB Chain retired BEP-2 tokens along with BNB Beacon Chain on 19 November 2024. To move funds to BNB Smart Chain, withdraw from Binance directly or use Across or Stargate, which both serve BNB Smart Chain.
Before you bridge: key facts
- Wait times
- Across about 2 s on Ethereum to Arbitrum; Stargate about 1 minute; Arbitrum deposits 15 to 30 minutes and withdrawals about 7 days.
- Gas
- You pay gas on the source chain, and on some routes the destination. Ethereum gas was about 0.1 gwei on 9 October 2026, so the Ethereum gas for a bridge transaction came to cents.
- Native or wrapped
- Lock-and-mint routes give wrapped tokens; CCTP routes deliver native USDC. Check the received token before you confirm.
- Official sites
- across.to, stargate.finance, portal.arbitrum.io/bridge, portalbridge.com, orbiter.finance, bridge.synapseprotocol.com. Bookmark them; impersonation sites exist.
- Test first
- Send a small amount before a large transfer, especially on maker routes or new routes.
- Deadlines
- STG converts to ZRO until 15 December 2026; Silicon (Orbit Bridge) withdrawals end 31 December 2026, 12:00 KST.
- Tax
- How a bridge transfer or a wrap is taxed depends on your country. Check your local guidance.
- Protection
- Don't count on any insurance for bridged funds. Recovery after a hack depends on the project and its backers. Jump Crypto replaced Wormhole's lost funds in 2022, and Orbit's stolen funds were never recovered.

Risk disclaimer
This page is general information, not financial advice. Bridging carries smart-contract, custody and operational risk, and past incidents show losses can be total. Fees, chain lists and speeds are snapshots from 9 and 10 October 2026 and change often, so check the quote in the bridge's own app before you sign. Read our full disclaimer.
