USDe is the largest synthetic dollar stablecoin, built on delta-neutral hedging (1 USD = 1 USD long crypto spot hedged 1:1 by short perpetual futures). Market cap ~$4.42B, down 70% from $14.8B peak in October 2025 after Pendle/Aave leveraged looping unwind. BaFin formally classified USDe as ART (Asset-Referenced Token) in March 2025; Ethena GmbH wound up August 2025 and operations consolidated under Ethena (BVI) Limited. NOT MiCA-authorized in any EU member state. Backing shifted from 93% perp shorts (Jan 2025) to 89% liquid stables + 11% perp shorts (Apr 2026). October 2025 Binance flash to $0.65 was venue-specific; on-chain redemptions cleared at $1.00 throughout.
